So you already know about the two incredibly exciting things going on in my life at the moment that have spurred me into beginning this blog, but I just wanted to give you a bit of a background on the steps that lead to our decision to move and a little bit about me!
In July of this year, my lovely boyfriend got down on one knee and asked me to marry him; which of course my response was a muffled ‘yes’ in between lots of tears and lots of hugging (you can find pictures of this in the gallery). Following this, his company decided his brilliant brain would be of better use in San Francisco and asked if he would be happy to relocate.
The second question was one that was both easy and difficult to answer. What I mean by this is that initially we couldn’t believe our luck -‘swap our lives in a cold and wet country for a life of sunny relaxed Californian living?’, YES PLEASE!
But then we thought about leaving our families for the next few years and with that thought immediately accepted the offer! Ha, not really. We are both very close to our families and the thought of leaving them really did break our hearts. But as we told ourselves, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and if we don’t do it now we never will. So we joyfully accepted the offer.
What you need to know about me: to cover the basics, I am a twenty-something ‘millennial’ searching for my purpose in life – as it seems many others are too (getting deep early on!). The difficulty I find at this age is the catapult into adulthood from either school, college or university and expecting to know exactly what you should be doing and when – it is not as easy as that!! You meet people along the way who seem to have it all figured out – they are building a strong career, have a five year plan and probably have a mortgage on a house; but for the rest of us, we are still figuring out how to survive each day at a time. It’s unsurprising that more people are on antidepressants than ever before as we all try to cope and deal with the pressures of the big bad world. As all the excitement happens in my life, I am looking forward to a new start in a new place, where I can hopefully find my purpose. I hope you’ll enjoy sharing this journey with me.
